Thy Veils “Here We Are Sidereal” REVIEW

Thy Veils, is a concept turned into style, a minimalist and complex meditation. Born out of the reality of the past millennium, nurtured by digital media expression and communication, Thy Veils’ art speaks through dense vision about exploration, experimentation and the search within the sphere of the undefined, of movement in the quantum.

They started out as a studio project in 1995, headed by Daniel Dorobantu, and soon it became a pioneering name in the Romanian ambient music scene. After 13 years of studio productions, in 2008 Daniel transforms Thy Veils into an ensemble of syncretic art.

By 2021 Thy Veils self produced seven studio albums, four live recordings and numerous singles, a DVD with non-narrative video essays, video art for live performances and video installations, music for film and contemporary dance.

Thy Veils’ live events are immersive audio-visual shows, transporting the auditorium towards the worlds within and the unfathomable depths of empathic comprehension and contemplation.

The band presents “Here We Are Sidereal”, a live dance show recorded at the Galactic Tick Festival on 9 September 2023 in Timișoara, România.

Inside the On.Set TV & film studios to explore and wonder together during a 90 minutes of electronic music, immersive visuals and lights and dance improvisation.

Spanning the whole galaxy, moving at 828,000 km/h around the supermassive black hole at its center, Galactic Tick Day celebrates our progress around the Milky Way. It is the first holiday designed to raise awareness about the fascinating movement of the Solar System around our galaxy.

Most people have a good sense of the motion of our solar system because it is a fundamental part of our lives. The rotation of the Earth makes for day and night; our planet’s revolution around the sun marks a year. But fewer Earthlings grasp the larger picture — that our solar system is just one among billion others, orbiting a supermassive black hole at the center of the galaxy. And where the sun goes, we go too.

Galactic Tick Day was created by a group of science enthusiasts. David Sneider, one of the creators, said the motivation for inventing this new holiday is “kind of loosely defined,” but mainly the group hopes it will simply bring awe and excitement to people’s lives.

The first Galactic Tick Day took place one galactic tick after Hans Lippershey filed the patent for the telescope on 2 October 1608. The first observance of the holiday was on 29 September 2016, the 235th Galactic Tick Day.

This is also the day Thy Veils joined the celebration. Galactic Tick Festival is part of the national cultural program Timișoara – European Capital of Culture in 2023 and is financed by the LoB2023+ program, run by the Center for Culture and Art of Timiș County, with amounts allocated from the state budget, through the budget of the Ministry of Culture.

The Timiș County Council financed the event through the Timiș County Culture and Art Center and the Ministry of Culture.
