Jimmi King “Held” REVIEW

Jimmi King, that was previously part of the acclaimed dance duo NVOY continues his exploration of the world of dance and ambient music with his new single ‘Held’.

This is the first of a series of ambient releases coming in the next months.

Jimmi recently explored the link between ambient and beat driven music at his recent club night ‘Ceremony’ at The Glove That Fits in Hackney, London. The night threaded a path between choral, ethereal tones all the way through to techno and jungle, with some of the finest DJs in London.

Some words from Jimmi about the song and his project: “After a few years of composing for contemporary dance, other artists, and sync, I'm back with my own dance/ambient project, and have already played a London debut show as well as DJ sets in Paris / Helsinki / Lisbon.

I'm currently exploring the links between music / consciousness / dance / ambient music, in a converted shipping container in East London. My music-making is shaped by my experiments with meditation, yoga, discipline, and both ascetic and maximalist lifestyles in the past few years. I increasingly feel the responsibility of the musician to help guide and shape the world through the form of sound”

For Jimmi, ambient music is a way of exploring attention, awareness, and the simple way that music colours our experience of life. He’s especially interested in the kind of poignant awareness that come from this specific brand of sensitive and uplifting beatless music. For years he’s experimented with different forms of meditation, yoga, and techniques for focus and self-discipline. The result has been an increasing understanding of the profound role music plays, and the responsibility of the music-maker to create audio that directs the listener towards a desirable state, and for the music to play a small (or large) role in building a beautiful world. This world is both inner and outer, as the two are inextricably linked. Music has this incredible ability to go straight to our core, to our individual experience, and to also link us together in a way that is even deeper than language or visual symbolism.

“Held” is NOW AVAILABLE on all streaming platforms!
