Debbie Schippers “Station Rise” EP REVIEW

This March, London-based pop artist Debbie Schippers releases her hotly anticipated new 4-track EP Station Risewhich follows on from previous standout.

The focus track is the catchy pop-rock anthem “Parlophonewhich was crafted during the lockdowns, where like many others she was forced to slow down and look around. In doing so she found inspiration in her local community, her street Station Rise, and the local heroes.

Debbiesound was honed during her youth where she was inspired by the likes of Alicia Keys, Fleetwood Mac and The Eagles. These influences are clear to hear, but this new collection has been further inspired by her love of old-school R&B, and Grunge with Alice In Chains vibes evident throughout, particularly on lead single. This hybrid of those classic R&B and Grunge styles creates a heady soundscape that ties the project together.

All four tracks included on the soundtrack offer something a little different and are extremely powerful pop songs in their own right. This is pop music at its best and Debbie is stepping into her power with a collection that will stand the test of time. ‘Station Rise’ is a body of work any artist would be proud of creating.

Young, fresh and vibrant, Debbie Schippers brings an exciting new outlook to the pop scene with her introspective writing and tantalising melodies that hook the listener in and offer a unique worldview.

To not only be in possession of a remarkable musical talent, but to be able to wield it with such a powerful self-assurance and confidence at only 22 is what marks her out as a young woman with a very exciting future ahead of her.

Despite her youth, she has already racked up an impressive amount of experience. Schippers spent her childhood feeding an ever-increasing appetite for performing by playing in various bands around her hometown in Germany and recording her first demos in her basement with her father. Quickly realising that her ambition lay rooted in music, Schippers took the bold step of moving to Berlin on her 18th birthday in order to launch herself into a full-time music career.

Whilst her powerful vocals are instantly reminiscent of her soul singing heroines, it is impossible to ignore the love of live music and instrumentation that heavily influences the energy and creative direction of the EP, with Schippers nodding to old rock bands such as The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin.

Be sure to listen to the full EP for really understand and dive into Debbie’s world!
