Sugar Nova “Touch Me I'm Going to Scream, Pt. 2” REVIEW
Sugar Nova is the new collaboration between Luke Miller (from the band Lotus) and singer Rachel Eisenstat (from Raven Jane) they are set to release a cover of My Morning Jacket’s “Touch Me I’m Going to Scream, Pt. 2”. Their version puts a new spin on track. Eisenstat’s smoky vocals over the chill, almost deep house, production from Miller create a sexy new female perspective on the song. The electric guitar nods to the original, while delivering a restrained, yet melodic solo.
The Denver-based group offers soulful vocals and pop-oriented beats, with arrangements that nod to Nu-Disco, Indie-Dance, Dance/Electronica, Dream Pop, and Chillwave. Sugar Nova doesn’t shy away from mining deep lyrical themes while keeping your body moving to the beat. Formed in 2022 their debut full-length album is set to be released in early 2023.
Luke has performed around the world with Lotus playing festivals such as Electric Forest, Bonnaroo, and Ultra and has headlined Red Rocks 14 times. Rachel is a veteran singer performing in numerous groups around the Denver area. Together as Sugar Nova their sound is completely different than anything either has done before. Catchy, concise, dreamy, pop-oriented songs create an ethereal yet dance invoking vibe.
Luke about the creative process: “A friend suggested this cover and my instinct was to give it a minimal-chill house arrangement. Rachel immediately locked into this smooth vocal style that really brought out the yearning, sexiness that the title suggests.”
The vocals were recorded at Evergroove Studio in Evergreen, CO, and the production was done at Miller’s home studio in Denver. Rob Murray of Wilderfox Studio mixed and mastered the track.
