Award-Winning Artist Debo Ray Releases New Single "Feelin' Lucky"
In a move that's sure to set the dance floors ablaze, award-winning singer, songwriter, and performer Debo Ray has released her latest single, "Feelin' Lucky," along with a captivating music video. The single is available on all streaming platforms, while the video can be found on Debo's YouTube Channel, @iamdeboray.
A Fusion of Genres
"Feelin' Lucky" is a dance-pop "banger" that seamlessly blends funk, retro disco, and hip-hop elements, creating a sound that's both familiar and fresh. The song was written by Ray, along with co-writers Jerry Velona and Prince Charles Alexander, who is also producing all the album tracks.
Alexander, a faculty member at Berklee College of Music alongside Debo, has worked with R&B legends such as Mary J. Blige, Usher, and Diddy. "Debo is a force to be reckoned with, an amazing vocalist," Alexander said. "I've worked with many great singers, and she's definitely up there at the top of the list."
A Message of Empowerment
"Feelin' Lucky" is a celebration of newfound freedom and joy after a difficult breakup. "There's a saying, 'lucky in love,'" Ray explained. "This song kind of turns that around and says you can be lucky, maybe luckier, to NOT be in love. We've all experienced bad relationships in our life. I wanted to speak to the courage required to break free and get what you want and how that makes you feel."
The theme of female empowerment, which is a hallmark of Debo Ray's music, shines through in "Feelin' Lucky." "I just want all people, including all women, to be their best selves and live their lives with joy and purpose," she said. "And maybe dance a little once in a while," she adds with a laugh, "hopefully this song will help with that."
