CATDADDY “Disco Love” REVIEW
CATDADDY, a fantastical funky duo, with a flair for all things Funk music, is making their debut onto the scene with the release of their first single. Composed of Aidan Paul and Leonardo Bacan, CATDADDY will be releasing this song off of their wildly groovy, and wonderfully eccentric, “CATDADDY EP,” to debut later this year. With the electronic, pop-funk elements of Daft Punk, the abstract, yet catchy, structure of Parcels, and the disco-soul essence of Hall & Oates, this powerful pair has joined forces on a mission to fuse retro and mainstream relevance, captivating the new listener and bringing nostalgia to the experienced ear.
Aidan Paul, an interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional artist, brilliantly fuses art mediums of dance, songwriting and production to create vibrant performances that embrace his individuality and unique style. Having graduated with a BFA in Music Theatre (Florida State University,) Aidan now resides in Little Havana and is in high demand, performing nightly at Wynwood’s most upscale venues. Versed in jazz funk, acoustic soul and disco pop, and with distinguishable notes of Southern Baptist heavy soul, acquired in his church upbringing, Paul has an unbridled earthiness and silky fluidity in his vocal approach. A fabulous passion can be heard in his melodic choices, reminiscent of the 1980 neo-soul era.
Equally artistically versatile, Leonardo Bacan has combined his expertise in the fine arts with his intricate musical ear to add to the innovative nature of CATDADDY. A self-made success, Bacan played guitar alongside his musically inclined father from a very young age and taught himself the art of composure from the likes of Youtube tutorials and sheer repetition. Bringing a bit more grunge to the duo, he adds an epic edge to the music, a rock-inspired electricity. With a bachelor in fine arts, and a heavy decoration in national awards, Leonardo Bacan also brings a unique artistic expression to the group, launching the two musicians beyond the masses of the many up-and-coming hopefuls, to stand out from the crowd in a category all their own.
“Disco Love” was recorded in Sweden under the music production of Amir Aly (Jill Johnson, Elena Paparizou, Danny Saucedo), with horn arrangements by Mattias Bylund (Justin Timberlake.) With warm vocals and “a sound you can’t get enough of,” this headlining track embodies that aggressive, urban and dance-driven funkiness that is so well enforced by the hard syncopated bass lines and accented by rhythmic counterplay. The iconic horn section guides us into the discotheque and the repetitive nature of the catchy chorus only reinforces the power in this uptempo jam, all working towards a total groove.
